NBC has long been great at cultivating shows that go on to have long primetime runs, which is reflected in its weekly schedule full of very familiar names and faces. While some folks might wish NBC would come up with more new stuff for its winter slate, the upside is that NBC is a very well known quantity full of shows that we already know if we like or not, like Law & Order and The Voice. That might be frustrating for folks looking for something fresh, but having a bunch of shows that serve as long-term comfort food isn't so bad.

So as we look ahead at NBC's midseason slate kicking off in January, we're mostly looking at titles we know not just because the first half of their seasons aired in the fall, but also because we've been watching most of these shows for years. Case in point: The biggest news on the midseason slate may be that NBC's Wednesday block of Chicago shows — Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD — will resume airing about as quickly as the network is able to get them back up. All three of those shows will see their midseason premieres on Jan. 8, which is the first non-holiday Wednesday of the new year.

On top of the shows that are resuming their runs from the fall, NBC's got a number of interesting season premieres coming during the winter and spring cycle, beginning with the Season 2 premiere of the game show Deal or No Deal Island, hosted by Joe Mangianello, on Tuesday, Jan. 7. The new season of The Voice will premiere as a two-hour event on Feb. 3, followed by the series premiere of The Hunting Party, about a team of crack investigators who go after most-wanted criminals.

But no doubt the biggest new show on NBC's slate this winter is Suits LA, the spin-off of the basic cable drama that found new life on Netflix last year. The series, which premieres on Feb. 23, will focus on a new high-powered attorney played by Stephen Amell, but you can expect some folks from the original series to pop up as well. The Suits LA premiere episode is sandwiched between the premieres of two other brand-new series: The Americas, and Grosse Pointe Garden Society.
