The NFL's second-annual Black Friday game returns on Nov. 29 with a Las Vegas Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs showdown that just might be the most anticipated game of the week. Although reigning Super Bowl champs Kansas City have been spectacular this season (they won nine of their first ten games) and the Raiders have been less-than-spectacular (they only won two of their first ten games), there is a heated history between these teams that seems fitting for a day in which consumers ruthlessly battle over discounted goods. Here's how to watch the 2024 NFL Black Friday game this year after you do your Black Friday shopping.
Last season, the Chiefs and Raiders played on Christmas, and the Chiefs got a stocking filled with coal. They suffered a surprising 20-14 loss to Las Vegas. The game included two defensive touchdowns. The Raiders ran back both a fumble recovery and an interception into the endzone. The victory caused something of an existential crisis in Kansas City and, in retrospect, was seen as a turning point in the Chiefs' season.
Following that, Kansas City won six straight games, turning around its season and propelling itself to another Super Bowl trophy. This year, the Chiefs might be slightly concerned about maintaining their league-wide dominance. They lost to the rival Buffalo Bills on Nov. 17, bringing their undefeated season to an end. In the NFL, a league in which every game matters and anything can happen on any given Sunday, Kansas City will hope to prevent themselves from unraveling.
Of course, Las Vegas hasn't exactly distinguished itself this season as a team capable of taking the mighty Chiefs down a peg. The Raiders had lost six straight heading into a Nov. 24 game against the Denver Broncos. Their two wins occurred in September, practically a lifetime ago in the NFL. The team has been living week-to-week with their quarterbacks, and it's easy to see why. Gardner Minshew has been one of the worst in the league at his position in 2024, with an adjusted total quarterback rating of only 39.2. Aidan O'Connell hasn't been much better, throwing two touchdowns and two interceptions in four appearances. Overall, ESPN listed the Raiders as dead last in their Week 11 power rankings.
The Black Friday showdown against one of the league's best teams and one of the league's worst teams is therefore less about competitive play and more about whether the Chiefs suffer another collapse, as they did on Christmas last year. In sports, it's easy to become superstitious. Is there something about playing the Raiders during the holidays that does sinister things to otherwise good teams? There's only one way to find out.
The Raiders and Chiefs will play on Black Friday at 5 p.m. EST on Prime Video. It's the only game scheduled for Nov. 29. To find out how to access Prime, from either the U.S. or abroad, read on.
