The gang is headed to Hollywood this summer
Only Murders in the Building continues to be a huge hit at Hulu, and even before the streaming service officially renewed the series on the day of the Season 3 finale, you didn't have to be a detective to see that a fourth season was inevitable. Now, we finally know that the series will return in August — with plenty of exciting guest stars to welcome our main trio to Hollywood. We even got a little teaser to go along with the premiere date announcement.
Keep reading to find out everything we know so far about Only Murders in the Building Season 4.
More on Hulu:
In May, Hulu released the first teaser for Only Murders in the Building Season 4, which shows Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez) heading to Hollywood to work on the film version of their podcast. (It's all very meta.) We also get our first look at this season's starry roster of guests, which includes Eva Longoria, Molly Shannon, Melissa McCarthy, Eugene Levy, Kumail Nanjiani, and more.
In May, Hulu announced that Only Murders in the Building will return for Season 4 on Aug. 27. As was the case with previous seasons, it will follow a weekly release schedule, with new episodes dropping on Tuesdays.
In Season 4, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel are headed to L.A., where a Hollywood studio is working on turning their podcast into a film. But they'll also be busy trying to solve Sazz Pataki's murder. Sazz (played by Jane Lynch) was Charles' double in his former show, Brazzos. In the Season 3 finale, she was dressed like him in his apartment when she was shot — so the podcasters will have to figure out whether Sazz or Charles was the real target.
Hulu's official Season 4 synopsis also teases that when Charles, Oliver, and Mabel return to New York, they'll "embark on an even more epic journey — traversing their building's courtyard to delve into the twisted lives of the Arconia's West Tower residents."
In October 2023, series co-creator John Hoffman told Variety that Season 4 will use Sazz's death to dive into the consequences of making art. "These three have made a podcast, and they put it out into the world and it's taken off," he said. "That thing you created could come back in a way that feels threatening and unexpected for you."
The first teaser for Season 4 confirms the return of Only Murders in the Building's golden trio — Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez — as well as the returns of supporting cast members Michael Cyril Creighton and Da'Vine Joy Randolph. Additionally, Jane Lynch appeared in the teaser, likely meaning that her character will appear in flashbacks, similar to Season 3's victim, Ben Glenroy (played by Paul Rudd).
The teaser also rolled out the red carpet for the Season 4 guest stars, with Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, Melissa McCarthy, Kumail Nanjiani, and Richard Kind joining the cast. They join a cast roster that also includes Desmin Borges, Siena Werber, Lilian Rebelo, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Catherine Cohen, and Jin Ha.
Eva Longoria and Molly Shannon are also joining the cast in Season 4, with Longoria recurring in an unknown role, according to Variety, and Shannon playing a businesswoman from Los Angeles, per Variety.
Season 3 newbies included Meryl Streep as Loretta Durkin and Jesse Williams as Tobert, but only Streep's return has been confirmed.
Seasons 1-3 of Only Murders in the Building are available to stream on Hulu. Season 4 premieres Tuesday, Aug. 27 on Hulu.
