'Oz has introduced him to a new world'
[Warning: The following contains spoilers The Penguin Episode 3, "Bliss." Read at your own risk!]
The Penguin Episode 3, "Bliss," has one character at its center: Victor Aguilar (Rhenzy Feliz), the teenager whom Oz Cobb (Colin Farrell) hired to be a driver, not that Victor had much of a choice to refuse him. At the start of the series, Victor stumbled upon Oz shortly after the mobster had murdered Alberto Falcone (Michael Zegen). The teenager was, against his will, roped into helping Oz get rid of the body. And though Oz had every reason to also kill Victor, he decided to spare his life. But while the duo have grown closer since their initial encounter, Victor has secretly been plotting a way out — he isn't sure if this gangster life is for him. The end of "Bliss," however, sees him give up his plans for an alternate life to return to Oz.
"There's so many reasons to go, but the reason I think he stays back is that Oz has introduced him to a new world that honestly — maybe he doesn't want to say it out loud — is a bit exciting," Feliz told TV Guide. "There's power in it, and there's money in it. Money's a big motivating factor for many, many people."
In "Bliss," we see that Victor didn't have much growing up in Crown Point, a lower-income neighborhood in Gotham. A flashback shows him telling his father that he's underpaid, and his old lifestyle is night and day compared to the experiences he's having in the present day with Oz. But more importantly, the mobster appears to believe in Victor — when the teenager clearly struggles to believe in himself — and is invested in his growth.
"It's just these opportunities," Feliz continued about why his character decided to remain by Oz's side. "He's looking at the way his life would look [if he does] not go down that road, and I don't think he likes the road."
