You already know Virgin River is a big deal, but did you know it's about to become Netflix's longest-running English language drama series ever? Now you do. The hit series has scored an early Season 7 renewal at Netflix — joining a long line of exciting early renewals in October. Slow Horses, which has released four seasons in just over two years, has already been renewed through its sixth season at Apple TV+; The Diplomat was renewed for a third season before the premiere of its second season; Prime Video's Reacher was renewed for a fourth season ahead of the premiere of its third season; and Netflix's The Night Agent was renewed for Season 3 before the debut of Season 2. October was not wasting time.
Elsewhere, Matlock, the not-quite-a-continuation of the famous legal drama that originally starred Andy Griffith, was renewed for a second season. It was the first major renewal of the broadcast networks' fall season, and came after just two episodes of the "reimagining," which stars Kathy Bates, had aired. CBS has also given a full season order to Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage.
Meanwhile, Sugar, Apple TV+'s noir drama starring Colin Farrell, has been renewed for a second season, and another Apple TV+ series, Shrinking, has been renewed for a third season. Other renewals in October include the Netflix rom-com Nobody Wants This, the Hulu reality series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, and the Adult Swim animated comedy Rick and Morty.
On the cancellation side, the dream of the '90s is dead at Netflix. The streamer has canceled That '90s Show after two seasons. Netflix has also canceled the modern Greek mythology dramedy Kaos and the workplace comedy Unstable. Elsewhere, Max has axed Velma, AMC has canceled Parish, and Starz has ended the reign of The Serpent Queen (although a spin-off about a different queen, Queen Elizabeth I, could take the throne).
Whether you're looking to celebrate more of your favorites or mourn the loss of something on your regular rotation, we kept tabs on all the shows that were canceled or renewed in October below.

The Night Agent, Netflix: Shawn Ryan's thriller has been renewed for Season 3 before Season 2 premieres. That's the good news. The bad news is that Season 2 has been delayed until 2025 instead of its previously stated 2024 release. Season 1 of The Night Agent is currently seventh on Netflix's list of most-watched English-language TV series of all time. (Oct. 8, Deadline)
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Hulu: The reality hit about #MomTok has been given a greenlight for 20 more episodes, which means it will be back for Season 2 and possibly Season 3. New episodes are expected this spring. (Oct. 3, Variety)
