The Ultimate Guide to What to Watch on Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Max, and More in November 2024

Saddle up for more Yellowstone

kc-profile-pic.jpg
Kelly Connolly

November belongs to Taylor Sheridan. Forget about Thanksgiving; this year, the penultimate month of the year is all about the long-awaited return of Sheridan's Yellowstone for the second half of Season 5 — which has been billed as the show's last, but rumor has it that the cast might not be ready to hang up their boots after all. We'll see. Plus, Sheridan's new series Landman, a star-studded Texas-set drama about the oil business, premieres on Paramount+ a week after Yellowstone returns on Paramount Network.

Even if you take Sheridan's shows out of the picture, it's a packed month, with a few returning favorites (like Arcane on Netflix) and even more exciting new titles (like Say Nothing on Hulu, Dune: Prophecy on HBO, and Cross on Prime Video).

Our guide to the best TV in November is divided into three sections: the best shows and movies to watch this month, the best shows to watch by streaming service, and a calendar of TV highlights. Whatever you're looking for, you'll find it below.

Like Water for Chocolate (Nov. 3, HBO Latino and Max)

Hopeless romantics, gastronomes, and foodplay fetishists can all share a table with this tasty Spanish-language adaptation of the acclaimed Laura Esquivel novel (and 1992 film) that blends love, food, and magical realism for a timeless story about the pursuit of happiness. Set during the Mexican Revolution, Like Water for Chocolate follows a woman who finds solace in the kitchen when her traditional mother becomes an obstacle for being with her true love. This one's a real transporter, providing an entertaining and emotional escape from whatever you need to get away from. -Tim Surette [Trailer]

Arcane Season 2 (Nov. 9, Netflix)

Three years after Arcane's groundbreaking first season, the animated series set in Riot's League of Legends universe is finally returning. In Season 1, sisters Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Jinx (Ella Purnell) went from best friends to enemies real quick. Now they are on opposite sides of a war between wealthy utopia Piltover and its impoverished undercity, Zaun. Based on the trailer, Season 2 promises more action-packed sequences, evocative voice acting, and, just like in Season 1, a rousing soundtrack with anthemic bangers. -Kat Moon [Trailer]

Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 (Nov. 10, Paramount Network)

After a long hiatus, Yellowstone is finally getting back in the saddle. But when the mega-hit drama returns, it will be without star Kevin Costner, who won't be dusting off John Dutton's cowboy hat due to apparent scheduling conflicts with his Horizon Western films. Between Costner's exit, the news that this season will be the last (unless it's not), and questions about how the upcoming contemporary spin-off series (now titled The Madison) might tie in to the flagship show, it's hard to say what Yellowstone might have in store. But with Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Jamie (Wes Bentley) at each other's throats, it's safe to assume the Duttons aren't riding into the sunset peacefully. Here's everything we know about what's next for Yellowstone. -Kelly Connolly [Trailer]

Emilia Pérez (Nov. 13, Netflix)

Emilia Pérez made waves when it premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. Not only did the French film from Jacques Audiard win the Jury Prize, but its ensemble — Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz, and Zoe Saldaña —won the festival's Best Actress award. The musical follows these four women's characters as they journey across Mexico to find themselves. -Kat Moon [Trailer]

Cross (Nov. 14, Prime Video)

Amazon's Prime Video is for the dads. Its latest dad show based on a dad book character — following the likes of Reacher and Bosch — created by dad book god James Patterson is Cross. The show stars Aldis Hodge as Washington, D.C. detective Alex Cross, who is on the trail of a sadistic serial killer... or is the serial killer on the trail of him? Isaiah MustafaRyan Eggold, and Alona Tal also star. -Tim Surette [Trailer]

Say Nothing (Nov. 14, Hulu)

This FX-produced limited series adapts Patrick Radden Keefe's bestselling book of the same name, a true story that spans decades during Northern Ireland's Troubles. The series opens with the 1972 abduction of Jean McConville, a single mother of 10; at the same time, it follows various members of the Provisional Irish Republican Army both during and after the conflict, exploring the conditions that drove them to take violent action and the true cost of a code of silence. Lola Petticrew stars as Dolours Price, alongside Anthony Boyle — truly one of this year's TV MVPs — as Brendan Hughes. -Kelly Connolly [Trailer]

Dune: Prophecy (Nov. 17, HBO)

Denis Villeneuve's Dune films have been successful with critics and audiences alike. It only makes sense, then, for Warner Bros. and HBO to try to capitalize on that success with a glossy spin-off series. Dune: Prophecy, which takes inspiration from Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's novel Sisterhood of Dune, is set thousands of years prior to the movies and focuses on the origin of the Bene Gesserit, the witches whose machinations would eventually lead to the rise of Paul Atreides. Starring Emily WatsonTravis FimmelOlivia WilliamsMark Strong, and Jodhi MayDune: Prophecy didn't have the smoothest production — it's had four different showrunners, and reshoots and re-castings galore on top of that. While that's worrying, it wouldn't be the first time HBO managed to make something like this work — Game of Thrones actually had pretty similar issues before its first season, and, as we know, that ended up working out OK. -Phil Owen [Teaser] [Everything we know about Dune: Prophecy]

Landman (Nov. 17, Paramount+)

The latest from Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is Landman, a Texas-set drama starring Billy Bob ThorntonDemi MooreJon HammAli Larter, and Andy Garcia. Thornton plays a crisis management executive at an oil company during a boom in the oil business that has roughnecks and billionaires getting their hands dirty. The series, which is based on the podcast Boomtown, has reportedly already been renewed for a second season. Here's everything we know about Landman. -Tim Surette [Trailer]

Interior Chinatown (Nov. 19, Hulu)

Charles Yu's 2020 novel Interior Chinatown is one of the most significant works of Asian American literature in recent years, and its TV adaptation is finally almost here. The story follows Willis Wu, a background actor in the fictional procedural Black and White who dreams of becoming something so much bigger. But his plans are halted when he accidentally witnesses a crime. If the show is anything like the novel, we're anticipating a heavy exploration of themes that include the search for one's identity, racism, and the American Dream. The series stars Jimmy O. Yang as Willis Wu, Ronny Chieng as Fatty Choi, and Chloe Bennet as Detective Lana Lee. -Kat Moon

A Man on the Inside (Nov. 21, Netflix)

Netflix will find itself in a very good place this November with a The Good Place reunion: Creator Mike Schur and star Ted Danson are teaming up for A Man on the Inside, a comedic take on the Oscar-nominated documentary The Mole Agent, which follows an older man (Danson) who is hired by a private detective to be a mole in a nursing home. Mary Elizabeth Ellis and Stephanie Beatriz also star. -Tim Surette [Trailer]

The Piano Lesson (Nov. 22, Netflix)

Adapted from August Wilson's 1987 play of the same name, The Piano Lesson is about one family's unraveling because of an heirloom piano. Willie Charles (John David Washington) is on a mission to sell the prized possession, but his sister Berniece (Danielle Deadwyler) will not budge — for her, the piano cannot leave the Charles family. The film, directed by Malcolm Washington, also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Potts, Ray Fisher, Corey Hawkins, Erykah Badu, and Skylar Aleece Smith. -Kat Moon [Trailer]

The Agency (Nov. 29, Paramount+ With Showtime)

If you're going to remake something, it might as well be something that was great. The French thriller The Bureau (Les Bureau des Légendes), one of the best espionage TV shows ever made, gets adapted in The Agency. This version moves the action to England, where a covert CIA agent (Michael Fassbender) is asked to abandon his undercover post and work at London Station, where he reconnects with a past flame who makes things very complicated. Jeffrey WrightJodie Turner-Smith, and Richard Gere also star. -Tim Surette [Trailer]

Netflix's best new shows and movies in November

Of the many things we're thankful for this November, Netflix's increasingly standard model of releasing TV seasons in two — or, God forbid, three — parts is not one of them. But at least the month comes with the arrival of new episodes of two of the platform's biggest series. The swashbuckling adventure Outer Banks returns for Part 2 of its fourth season, while the martial arts saga Cobra Kai approaches its end with Season 6 Part 2 (a third and final part will release in 2025). Also coming to Netflix in November is Arcane Season 2 — now that's something to add to our gratitude list. And on the film side, there are two major awards contenders releasing on Netflix this month: Emilia Pérez and The Piano Lesson. Here's our list of the best shows and movies on Netflix in November, plus everything coming to and leaving Netflix in November.

HBO and Max's best new shows and movies in November

Give a big old Dune scream for Dune: Prophecy, which premieres on HBO this November. The new series is a prequel to Denis Villeneuve's films, focusing on the spooky and powerful Bene Gesserit sisterhood — you know, the witches with the pain box and the Voice? In a complete pivot away from that, The Sex Lives of College Girls will also premiere its third season this month, with a very reduced amount of Renée Rapp. This November also sees the premieres of the Kiernan Shipka-Nico Hiraga rom-com Sweethearts. Here's our list of the best shows and movies on HBO and Max in November, plus everything coming to HBO and Max in November.

Hulu's best new shows and movies in November

Following a big Halloween push in October, Hulu is slowing things down with its new movies and TV shows in November. But thankfully the streamer is going to its bread and butter: enticing originals and overlooked films that can get a second life on streaming. Leading the way is the TV series Interior Chinatown, an adaptation of Charles Yu's 2020 novel of the same name about an extra in a cop show with dreams of making it big in acting, but things get interesting when he finds himself unwittingly in the spotlight after he witnesses an actual murder. Plus, Say Nothing brings the bestselling book about the Troubles in Northern Ireland to the small screen. Here's our list of the best shows and movies on Hulu in November, plus everything coming to Hulu in November.

Amazon Prime Video's best new shows and movies in November

After a busy October that included the year's second Prime Day, Amazon is taking a breather in November. The megacorp's streaming service has a couple new shows that might be worth your time. First is Cross, a small-screen adaptation of James Patterson's novel series about a Washington, D.C. detective (Aldis Hodge) who is chasing down a serial killer. Also coming this month is a new take on Cruel Intentions that moves the youthful sexually charged tension to a D.C. college campus, where the twisted stepsibling games play out against the backdrop of the Greek system. And make Black Friday a silver and black Friday when the Las Vegas Raiders visit the Kansas City Chiefs on Nov. 29. Here's our list of the best shows and movies on Amazon Prime Video in November, plus everything coming to Prime Video in November.

It doesn't get much twistier and turnier than what's coming to Peacock in November, which includes the streaming debut of Twisters, the tornado-filled blockbuster film. Also coming this month is the Peacock original The Day of the Jackal, an adaptation of the book about an assassin caught in a game of cat-and-mouse with a British intelligence officer. Leading the way on Paramount+ this November is Landman (Nov. 17), the latest from the current King Midas of the TV industry, Taylor Sheridan. Though not officially connected to Sheridan's massive hit Yellowstone and its spin-offs, it shares some DNA, as it follows the oil business in West Texas. Also debuting this month on Paramount+ with Showtime is The Agency (Nov. 29), an adaptation of the French thriller The Bureau (Les Bureau des Légendes), which is one of the best espionage TV shows ever made.
